Rocking thoughts V

3/30/2017

Picture
Quiet and dark on the cart.
About half the lights are out.
There is a little boy who speaks to his mother using the power of new language.
Repeating a word or phrase a number of times at a high volume, as though unsure of how this language thing really works.
Sometimes the boy notices and attempts a whisper.
Just as loud.

There are a number of deadpan people on this cart. Luckily the announcers voice is soothing enough not to awake us from our mutual early stupor.
The window next to my head is greasy, otherwise I would fall fast asleep, in this warm, patterned noise world.
Saturday morning local to West 4th.

The little boy gets off at 34th, looking hesitant and a bit disappointed to leave the magic of the train.  Through the eyes of a child, and my own.

Rocking thoughts is a serious of short observations made on the New York subway.  An interesting cross section and environment that is truly and as much this city.
