2016 Personal Reflections

1/3/2017

Spent the morning looking back on the things that happened to me and that I made or helped make happen in 2016.  These are the things I'm proud of in this past year....

I traveled to Philadelphia, Antigua, Pittsburgh, Provincetown, and Florida.

I read 41 books, cover to cover and 48 plays.

I watched 33 new films.

I posted 11 times to this blog and did a complete revamp of this website.

I posted 11 times to my anonymous blog and helped quite a few women who share the same disorder.  This is my greatest artistic commitment.  The creation that is the most difficult, but helps others in ways beyond my comprehension.

I created 7 new pieces of visual art and 9 new chalkboard designs.

I helped create, directed sourcing, and footnoted 2 full length plays about the Primary Debates and General Debates, and 2 shorter pieces about The Verizon Strike and Trump Supporters, all with Theater in Asylum.

Between plays, tours, choir, readings, and concerts I performed 47 times, either acting or singing.

I visited my family in Boston 4 times, and hosted family members in NYC for 2 birthdays and Easter, along with countless phone calls and skype dates.

I sent lots of loving cards to strangers, family, and friends.

I checked 16 new museums and experiences off my NYC bucket list.

I was blessed to become closer to my communities in New York.  For those who don't know, social gatherings can be very difficult for me and yet this year has been my most active year since arriving in the city.  I am so grateful for the amazing friends that help make that possible.

I celebrated my 3 year anniversary at The Lower East Side Tenement Museum and got a new part time job that challenges me to think differently about cultural institutions.

I redecorated my room, adjusted to a new roomate, got a new hairstyle, paid off a loan, made paper dolls, took voice lessons, did butoh, saw a variety of live performances, and directed an indoor Coronation for Fleur de Lis Camp.

I voted for a woman to be President.

My nephew, Ryder, was born and my niece, Olivia, became a crazy toddler!

I celebrated my 5 year anniversary with New York City, surrounded by my family here.  It is a place that has changed me forever.

I am nervous about what might happen in 2017 and am becoming more aware of how I can best stand up for my own rights and help stand up for the rights of others.  I am ready to do my part.

I am excited by the possibilites in this coming year.  I was lucky to experience so much growth and success in 2016 and I am hopeful that 2017 will bring even more, but with less destruction.  Either way this artist lady will be creating every step of the way.

Thank you for reading and supporting me, and Happiest of New Years to you and yours!
